Title: Navigating Accessibility: Understanding Fixed-Route and Paratransit ADA Requirements (remote mini-workshop)
Date: August 27, 2026

Description: Join us for this session on ensuring compliance with accessibility standards in public transportation. This session will provide an overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its non-discrimination mandates. We’ll delve into the specifics of fixed-route transit systems, covering essential aspects such as wheelchair securement, bus stop accessibility, and wheelchair boarding procedures to ensure an inclusive experience for all passengers. Additionally, we’ll explore paratransit services, focusing on age limits, personal care assistants (PCAs), no-show policies, service beyond the curb and other accessibility considerations for both modes including reasonable modifications to enhance accessibility and meet the needs of all riders. This session is designed for transit operators, accessibility coordinators, and anyone involved in ensuring transportation services meet ADA requirements. Deadline to register is August 25, 2026.

Description: Delivering truly effective public transportation means putting the passenger at the center of every decision. This 90-minute webinar explores practical strategies for designing and delivering services that reflect the needs, preferences, and experiences of riders across both fixed-route and paratransit systems. Participants will learn how to apply customer-focused approaches to service planning, daily operations, and frontline interactions, with an emphasis on supporting people with disabilities, older adults, and other riders who rely heavily on transit. The session will highlight techniques for improving communication, building trust, and creating a more responsive and respectful rider experience. Deadline to register is September 1, 2026.

 

Title: Practical De-escalation Strategies for Transit Professionals (webinar)

Description: Every transit employee will encounter frustrated, upset, or emotionally charged passengers. Knowing how to respond calmly and professionally can help prevent situations from escalating while promoting a safer experience for everyone. This webinar explores practical de-escalation techniques, effective communication strategies, and methods for recognizing early warning signs of escalating behavior. Participants will learn approaches for maintaining professionalism, reducing conflict, setting appropriate boundaries, and supporting both employee and passenger safety during everyday transit operations. Deadline to register is September 15, 2026.
