When it comes to juvenile crime, if you're not part of the solution, that's part of the problem. Your help is vitally important in stopping this growing epidemic of juvenile crime that is sweeping our country. Project Action Foundation, Inc., founded in October 1994, is a non-profit children's charity fighting juvenile crime by providing disadvantaged and "at risk" children opportunities to become involved in physical and cultural arts programs.

These programs are uniquely suited for the personal development of children, stressing such values as respect, discipline, courage and integrity while also teaching goal-setting skills and instilling a positive work ethic. PROJECT ACTION works closely with local law enforcement agencies and school counselors, as they are the main source of referral into the program.

PROJECT ACTION received the 1997 Florida Governors Award from the late Governor Lawton Chiles and was recognized the same year by California Governor Pete Wilson for keeping children out of gangs. Since it's creation, PROJECT ACTION has provided opportunities to thousands of youngsters in dance, gymnastics and marital arts schools across all 50 states. Many of the children have shown remarkable turnarounds, sometimes from straight F's to Honor Roll, after becoming involved in PROJECT ACTION.

Why Help Project Action?

Negative peer pressure and gangs are the leading cause of juvenile crime in this county today.

Money generated in your community helps children in your community.

Project Action is dedicated to placing "at risk" children into positive programs and surrounding them with achievement oriented peers.

Project Action closely monitors the children's progress by checking report cards and behavior to make sure they are improving through the program.

Most Project Action children are referred by law enforcement and school counselors and many have shown remarkable turnarounds.

Project Action gives children in bad circumstances new opportunities to bring positive influences into their lives and is supported entirely by community based fund-raisers, which means…

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

 Parent Testimonial

To Whom it may concern:

Hello, our name is Mr. & Mrs. (Name withheld). We are writing this letter regarding our son Duane.  He has ADHD and is taking Concerta once a day.  He also has a speech impediment, which he has had since birth. Duane has been enrolled in karate for the last 3 years (the last 1 1/2 at Arikata Martial Arts).  He has progressed very well and has moved up to Advance Green Belt.  He also has a sister, and lives with an extended family.

We have been hit with extreme expenses in the last 7 months.  My wife was involved in an automobile accident, and has been our of work since July 2000 and has an undetermined time to return to work.  She still goes to therapy twice a week.  We had to replace her car.  I work two fulltime jobs to try to make ends meet.  Last month our furnace died (18 years old) and had to be replaced.  That did not help matters.  Duane also needed braces.  With our extended family (younger brother and mother in law) expenses are even more difficult.  Mother in Law is disabled with MS.  The rising cost of energy is also depleting the finances.

Karate has helped Duane immensely.  It has improved his focus and his concentration.  He does not have to be on medication while he is in Dojo.  His self-esteem has been given a surprising uplift.  He is always excited to go to karate because of the friends and learning that is there.  He has learned to control his temper and energy in a positive manner.  Karate has helped him wonderfully in his schooling and making friendships.

With all the expenses this year, we were planning to pull Duane out of karate until we got back on our feet.  This was a hard decision, but it would help a few expenditures.  The senseis are very knowledgable and friendly to Duane and our needs.  They introduced us to this Scholarship because they understand our situation and do not want Duane to be pulled out of karate.  He has come a long way and progressed very well to this point!  We hope you can help Duane and both of us to keep him and his dreams alive to become a Black Belt someday.
